VETRIS ATELIER · İSTANBULEST. 2022

The Atelier

Where fire, copper, and enamel meet.

Not a creation, but a metamorphosis.

At VETRIS, a piece is never simply "made" from scratch. It is the result of a long, careful relationship built with the material's own nature. The copper is prepared. The enamel is applied. The fire makes an irreversible decision. The piece that emerges is a singular work, carrying the shared memory of craftsmanship, material, and fire.

Forms Shaped by Master Hands

In the atelier, every piece is handled individually. The process follows not a schedule but the material's response on the day. The enamel may take on a deeper tone than expected. Light may leave an unforeseen movement across the surface. The fire may set a seal that belongs to that moment alone. These variations are not accidental. They are the natural decisions that make each piece singular.

850°C

This is not merely a technical temperature. It is the threshold at which copper and enamel fuse irreversibly. Beyond this point, the piece has made its decision: its colour, its surface, its lustre, its texture — all are sealed in that instant.

The piece that reaches your hands is the single possibility held within that moment of fire.

Made Sparingly, Made to Last

VETRIS stands outside the cycle of fast consumption. Pieces are conceived not according to seasonal trends but as collectible forms that can exist quietly in the same space for years. Few in number, finished by hand, enduring. Each piece is designed as a lasting presence that builds a relationship with its space.

  • 100% Copper: A dark bronze-brown outer surface. A form shaped by hand.
  • Jewellery Enamel: A bright, deep inner surface that draws light in. A different tone in every piece.
  • 850°C Fire: The threshold of transformation that seals each piece irreversibly.
  • Istanbul Atelier: Small-scale, controlled production, finished by hand.

VETRIS Atelier is a space of transformation in Istanbul, working with copper, enamel, and fire. Each piece carries the trace of a singular journey that begins in master hands and is completed in fire.

About VETRIS Atelier

VETRIS Atelier is a Turkish design studio in Istanbul producing handmade copper objects using 100% pure copper and vitreous jewellery enamel. Founded in 2022, the atelier completes each piece through a small-scale, controlled production process.

The copper objects produced in the atelier are presented in four main categories:

  • Craft Series — jewellery-enamel pieces without appliqué
  • Signature Series — pieces with appliqué and Murano glass details
  • Rituals — sets of two and three forms
  • Rezone — copper pyramids and tensor rings

Jewellery Enamel and Copper Craftsmanship

The jewellery enamel (vitreous enamel) used in VETRIS pieces is a durable, vitrified surface technique created by applying a glass-powder-based mixture to a 100% pure copper surface and firing it at approximately 850°C. This technique differs from industrial enamelling. Each layer is applied by hand and fired separately. The resulting surface carries a singular character in every piece in terms of depth, lustre, and light reflection.

In its handmade copper production, VETRIS does not mass-produce in its Istanbul atelier. Each object is treated individually. This process means that the same combination of colour and form will never be repeated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are VETRIS pieces produced?

All VETRIS pieces are produced entirely by hand in the Istanbul atelier, using 100% pure copper and jewellery enamel.

What is jewellery enamel (vitreous enamel)?

Jewellery enamel is a durable, vitrified surface technique produced by firing a glass-powder-based mixture applied to metal surfaces at 750–900°C. In VETRIS pieces, it is applied to copper at approximately 850°C.

How are handmade copper objects cared for?

It is enough to wipe VETRIS copper objects with a dry, soft cloth. They should be kept away from water and chemical cleaners.

Can VETRIS pieces be shipped internationally?

Yes. VETRIS pieces are shipped worldwide in special protective packaging.

What is the difference between a handmade copper piece and factory production?

In handmade copper production, each piece is treated individually; form, surface, and colour vary from piece to piece. Factory production uses standard moulds and machines; every piece is identical to the next. In VETRIS pieces, these singular variations create the work's distinctive character.
